GULF ISLANDS RATES · UPDATED NOVEMBER 2026

Everest Locksmith quotes the whole total on the phone before booking a sailing. Locksmith Services in Gulf Islands

Everest Locksmith is a mobile, BC-licensed locksmith serving the Gulf Islands by booked visit, and by urgent call when the sailings allow. Lockouts start at $89, rekeying at $25 per cylinder and car keys at $180, plus ferry travel, and the total is quoted on the phone before a technician books a sailing.

The Southern Gulf Islands are a ferry ride away, and the work here is almost always planned. New owners rekeying, holiday rentals moving to keypads, and cottages, docks and sheds being brought onto one key. When something is urgent, we tell you honestly which sailing we can make rather than promising a time we cannot keep.

Everything happens from the van, at your door. Keys are cut and cylinders re-pinned on site, so there is nothing to drop off and nothing to collect, and the overwhelming majority of Gulf Islands jobs are finished in one visit, so the ferry is only crossed once.

Island by island

The Buildings and Locks We See in Gulf Islands

The job changes with the island. Everest Locksmith works across North and South Pender, Galiano, Mayne and Saturna, from the ferry terminals at Otter Bay, Sturdies Bay, Village Bay and Lyall Harbour to properties at the far end of each island.

  • North and South Pender — cottages and year-round homes, many with keys shared among family for years
  • Galiano — vacation rentals near Sturdies Bay that need keypad entry for guests
  • Mayne — older cottages and seasonal homes with salt-worn hardware
  • Saturna — remote properties where a lockout is a long way from help
  • Waterfront properties — docks, boathouses and dock boxes that need marine-grade padlocks
  • Seasonal homes — properties left empty in winter that need locks and key safes that cope with damp

Shared trips are worth naming, because they make the islands affordable. Ferry travel is one cost per trip. If two or three neighbours on the same island book together, the ferry is split between them, and each owner pays only for the work on their own property.

Getting to your door

Getting to You Across Gulf Islands

Everest Locksmith books Gulf Islands visits around the BC Ferries schedule from Swartz Bay and confirms the sailing on the call. For a booked job you get a date and a time window; for an urgent problem we tell you honestly which sailing we can make. Five things worth knowing before you call.

  1. Tell us which island and whether it is urgent. Planned work is cheaper per job and much easier to schedule around the ferry.
  2. List everything that needs doing. Rekeys, keypads, padlocks and key safes can all be done on one trip, with one ferry cost.
  3. Ask your neighbours. If someone nearby needs work too, book together and share the ferry cost.
  4. Give us directions, not just an address. Island roads and driveways are not always easy to find, and cell coverage can drop out.
  5. Have your ID ready, or tell us it is locked inside. Either is fine, but it is a conversation to have on the phone rather than on the doorstep.

The Gulf Islands are part of a wider island route. Everest also works Salt Spring Island, Sidney, North Saanich and Victoria, so the same team that looks after your Victoria home can look after the cottage too.

What Our Customers Say

Recent reviews from across Greater Victoria

Locked myself out at about 11pm and someone was at my door quickly. He showed me his licence before he started, quoted $145 on the phone and that is exactly what I paid. Picked it open, no damage to the lock or the door at all.

We manage a 40-unit strata and Everest rekeyed all the common areas onto a restricted keyway. Worked evenings so residents were not disrupted, handed us an actual key register at the end, and invoiced our management company directly. Very easy to deal with.

Lost the only key to my car. Dealership wanted to tow it and quoted over $600 with a four day wait. Everest came to the parking lot, cut and programmed a new smart key on the spot for $260. Took about 40 minutes.

Had every exterior door rekeyed the day we took possession. Four doors all keyed to one key, which I did not know was even an option. Quoted per cylinder up front, arrived when they said, done in just over an hour.

GULF ISLANDS QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers on coverage, pricing and licensing for Gulf Islands addresses.

The work is priced the same as Victoria: $89 to $220 for a daytime lockout, $25 to $65 per cylinder to rekey and $180 to $420 for a car key. Ferry fare and travel time are quoted as one line on top, agreed before we book, and can be shared between neighbours booking the same trip.

North and South Pender, Galiano, Mayne and Saturna, by booked visit from Swartz Bay. For Salt Spring Island, see our Salt Spring page; the same rates and ferry approach apply.

No. Standard cylinders are picked or bypassed rather than drilled, so the lock and the door are left intact. Padlocks that have seized solid in salt air sometimes have to be cut; we tell you that on the call and quote the replacement before starting.

Yes, but not in 30 minutes. We check the next sailing while you are on the phone and give you an honest arrival time. If a neighbour or caretaker can let you in sooner, that is usually the quicker and cheaper option, and we can fit a key safe or keypad on a booked visit so it does not happen again.

Yes. Every locksmith in British Columbia must hold a security worker licence under the Security Services Act, which requires a Locksmith Certificate of Qualification or documented supervised experience, plus fingerprinting and a criminal record check. Everest technicians are BC-licensed and carry the card on every Gulf Islands call.

Photo identification plus one document linking you to the address: a lease, a utility bill, a property tax notice or ownership papers. For vehicles we ask for the registration or insurance slip. If your ID is locked inside, say so on the call and we will work through the alternatives.

No. If a technician attends and we cannot carry out the work, you are not charged at all: the $69 service call is waived and no invoice is raised. It is rare, because the lock, door or vehicle is identified on the call before anyone books a sailing to Gulf Islands, but when it happens the cost of the visit is ours, not yours.
